New Blogging Inititive

I never really use my blog. This seems wasteful, so from now on, by which I mean next week, I will be starting to attempt to at least put out one blog a week, even if it’s nonsensical crap (read: the status quo). Perhaps I will get the incentive to do more than one, who know, but I will promise at least one per week.

Syria

So, while I wait for something long and boring to be completed, I have the time to muse a little bit on the whole issue of Syria and it’s use of chemical weapons. Obama kinda painted himself into a corner by promising intervention in the event of the Syrian army using chemical weapons against the rebels. My hunch is that the administration thought it a safe threat as they believed the Syrians wouldn’t use chem weapons on the basis of the threat of American intervention alone. (more…)

Monolingualism and the Multilinguistic Future

When I think about it, I’m fluent in the 3rd most-spoken language in the world, I am semi-fluent in the 2nd and 9th most-spoken languages, and I have a basic understanding of the most-spoken language. (3rd – English, 2nd – Spanish, 9th – Japanese, 1st – Mandarin Chinese) That’s probably an an accomplishment of some sort; for most people English is hard enough, but I see what I have now as a baseline, at best. I intend to become fully fluent in at least 3 of the aforementioned languages, and in the interconnected world that will be the future, this...

Creating Screencasts using NOT iMovie

In my continuing efforts to promote use of things not starting with the letter “i” for professional level things, I’ve decided to write up a quick blog detailing how I make the screencasts I have to do for my classes at Full Sail university with some of the professional level tools I use for my classes. Let’s start. For me, the process of a screencast begins with Microsoft Word (the PC version; the Mac version is kinda REALLY bad), as I need to script myself. This isn’t a needed step, but I can’t really shoot off the cuff when it...

A Timeline of Freezing: Zero (Part 1)

Welcome back to our little look at the series known as Freezing. Hey, remember those two teacher characters who had a whole 3 pages of doing stuff in the main series? Well, it’s time for a story about them. Of course, they’d be too boring, so let’s throw in the story of Kazuya’s sister, Kazuha (creative naming there), considered to be one of the strongest Pandora of all time. Well, let’s just hop right in. It starts off with the usual explanation of what Nova and Pandora are, for the people who like to read spin-offs and not the original...

Magic Card of the Week – Bonfire of the Dammed

I’m not the most seasoned Magic player, but what I lack in experience I make up for in neurotic obsession. I scour card databases to find cards that are strange, powerful, or that I just like and then I make decks that no one like and write em’ down here. Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn. So it’s the second to last Thursday of the month, which means it’s time to look at my fourth favorite color in Magic, red. It’s not that I dislike red, the only color I dislike is black, it’s just that I never really use...

Magic Card of the Week – Wild Defiance

I’m not the most seasoned Magic player, but what I lack in experience I make up for in neurotic obsession. I scour card databases to find cards that are strange, powerful, or that I just like and then I make decks that no one like and write em’ down here. Yay guest writing. So. I have a Calculus final today, the day I usually write MCoTW. I was originally planning on doing a whole MCoTW on Island, with the deck consisting of 60xIsland, but then I thought “Hey, why not pawn this week off onto Meos, he functions without sleep”....

Magic Card of the Week – Lost in the Woods

I’m not the most seasoned Magic player, but what I lack in experience I make up for in neurotic obsession. I scour card databases to find cards that are strange, powerful, or that I just like and then I make decks that no one like and write em’ down here. Yay early releases. So. I had a calculus test yesterday, which I recived the grade today (66, D+). I have another calc test tomorrow, the day I write MCoTW. So…yeah, last week I said I would do a blue card from Avacyn Restored. Not happening. I’m going to green and...

Magic Card of the Week – Avacyn, Angel of Hope

I’m not the most seasoned Magic player, but what I lack in experience I make up for in neurotic obsession. I scour card databases to find cards that are strange, powerful, or that I just like and then I make decks that no one like and write em’ down here. Row, row, fight the power. Well a new Magic set is out (or about to be out, depending on where you live), so what better way to open up a month-long look at Avacyn Restored then to look at the titular card of the set, Avacyn, Angel of Hope. Avacyn,...
